Intro
Job ResponsibilitiesGeneral Dynamics Information Technology has an opening for a Principal Network Engineer in Baltimore, MD. The candidate will architect, configure and maintain a large operational network. Provide network consulting and engineering support for Federal Government applications, networks and systems with focus on support of VoIP implementation. Analyze LAN and WAN systems, including planning, designing, evaluating, and protocol suites, capacity and configure communication media with concentrators, router, switches, servers, hosts, communications gear and other devices. Configure and maintain customer's infrastructure. Maintain and expand client relationships through delivery of high quality work. Resolve interoperability problems to obtain operations across all platforms, including e-mail, file transfer, multimedia, and teleconferencing. Establish networking environment by designing system configuration; directing system installation; defining, documenting, and enforcing system standards as they relate to IP telecommunication projects for all facilities. This includes conducting site surveys, project meetings, installation and post-installation issues. Maximize network performance by monitoring performance; troubleshooting network problems and outages; scheduling upgrades; collaborating with Director of Network Services on network optimization
Required Education EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Requires a Master's degree, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.. 15-20 years of experience in enterprise architect level networks with increasing responsibilities. Proficiency with Cisco routers and switches at a CCNP or CCIE level is required. At least five years with experience with Cisco routing and switching technologies. Including" Cisco Routers, Universal Gateways, and Integrated Services Routers. Most of models of Cisco Catalyst utilizing both IOS and CatIOS, RIP, EIGRP, OSPF, ISIS, and multihomed BGP, WAN services utilizing ATM, Frame Relay, DSL, PPP, and ISDN.
Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, or a mathematics-intensive discipline. Cisco CCIE Certification
Required Work Experience SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Eight years of intensive and progressive experience in engineering and securing large, complex IT Network systems. Work as an integral part of the architectural design process. Leads a team of highly skilled network and security engineers. Significant experience with networking engineering and deployment in large enterprise environments. Advise customer on entire network engineering life cycle. Must be strong on Cisco switches and routers and understand how to configure and troubleshoot VLANs, and layer-2 ethernet issues on the LAN as related to integrated voice, video, and data converged networking with prioritizing traffic and COS. Must have strong writing and verbal skills since the job has significant visibility as an tier-3 engineering and technical support department. Must be able to provide writing samples for engineering and configuration guides. Must be able to communicate well, and document methods used to resolve issues (Develop SOPs, engineering/maintenance logs, etc.). Knowledge of VOIP, Linux and MS servers, and security is a plus.
