Raytheon Polar Services is the primary contractor for the National Science Foundations (NSF) U.S. Antarctic Program. We are currently seeking Pipe Welder Foremen to deploy to McMurdo or South Pole research stations on a contract basis beginning in August of 2008.
There are three lengths for the contracts: Summer-(Approximately) August or October through February, Winter-(Approximately) February through October, and Year-Long-(Approximately) October through October. We are looking for Primary and Alternate employees to fill all contract positions. The Primary is first in line for the position. The Alternate is next in line to deploy should the Primary be unable to meet deployment requirements.
The Pipe Welder Foreman accomplishes and supervises pipe welding work on maintenance and construction projects in Antarctica. This position performs cutting, fitting/welding, connection and installation of piping and welding of various types and sizes. The Pipe Welder Foreman will utilize design drawings, specifications and diagrams and may be required to work outside on various job sites in extreme cold weather conditions.
Required Experience
- Minimum eight years documented experience in all phases of pipe welding and certified pipe welding is required.
- Experience must include a minimum of two years of supervisory experience in the pipe welding trade.
- Experience with layout, prefabrication and interpretation of drawings to create workable solutions that meet intent of design is required.
- The ability to read design drawings and specifications and knowledge of applicable codes is required.
- High School diploma or equivalent is required.
Preferred Experience
- Experience working with a variety of pipe materials is preferred.
- Previous 6G pipe weld certification or equivalent is preferred.
Special Conditions
- Successful completion of 6G pipe welding certification at time of hire is required.

All contract positions include competitive salary and a comprehensive benefits package. For the time you are in Antarctica compensation also includes travel to and from the ice, room & board, and you are eligible for a performance-based bonus upon successful completion of your contract.
